7 Tips to Get the Best Curb Appeal

(This post was written in collaboration with Worx but all thoughts and opinions are my own.)

Now that spring is in full swing, there are a few things I like to do to get the best curb appeal during the growing season.

Curb appeal can be accomplished by a number of methods, but the important thing to keep in mind is to make it keep it neat, clean and attractive because it greets visitors with a smile and adds value to your home.

Here are a few tips to achieving and maintaining curb appeal throughout the growing season.

Step 1: Paint the House or Power Wash the Siding to Add Curb Appeal

Neatening up the appearance of the home’s exterior is key to adding curb appeal to any home.

If exterior paint is chipping, dirty or needs to be refreshed, consider painting it to make the house look neater and more attractive from the outside.

Many of us have siding so we don’t have to maintain paint.

If you have siding like me, powerwash the house every few years to keep it clean.

The house gets very dirty over time with pollen, dirt and debris, so power washing it every few years will brighten the home’s appearance.

Step 2: Mowing the Lawn

Having a fresh green, healthy lawn is so important to achieving curb appeal.

Keep the lawn freshly mowed so it fosters good health and maintains a well-manicured appearance.

Mowing the lawn can be very timing-consuming depending on the amount of property you have.

My husband typically mows our lawn and spends hours on it every weekend.

We can’t miss a week or the grass gets out of control.

And some weekends, it is challenging to find the time to do it and on other weekends, the weather does not cooperate.

The Worx Landroid Mower

This year, I found the coolest Father’s Day gift for him that would help free up his time, keep our lawn well-manicured and he totally LOVES it!!!

The Worx Landroid Mower is a robotic mower for the lawn.

It literally mows the lawn by itself and understands the boundaries of the property so it mows around garden borders.

Set and forget it.

How cool is that?

When I first saw this high-tech mower, I knew it would make the perfect gift.

Since getting it, my husband has had a lot more free time on the weekends and my lawn has never looked better because it always looks freshly mowed.

How the Landroid Works

The Landroid has a built in smart auto scheduling system so it learns about your lawn and builds a schedule for it.

It also has some cool rain sensors so it knows not to mow when it’s raining and has a rain delay so it knows to wait a bit after a rain.

How cool is that? We can set it up and it just knows what to do!!!

Since the Landroid’s frequent mowing schedule produces very short clippings, those clippings can remain on the lawn because it is organic matter that will break down and improve the soil.

Frequent mowing at shorter heights helps boost the density of grass blades which helps prevent weed propagation.

This was a big selling point for me because I am a huge fan of not using, or at least, significantly reducing the use of pesticides.

Step 3: Edging Borders

If you have a lot of garden borders like me, it is really important to edge them.

Grass and weeds tend to creep in.

The neater they are kept, the plants in those borders will stand out and the cleaner the beds will look.

I spend time doing this weekly with an edger, but also add edged borders with hardscaping such as stone, bricks, and pavers.

Step 4: Weeding

It might not be everyone’s favorite garden chore, but weeding the beds cleans the gardens and prevents new weeds from starting.

It also helps existing plants stay healthy and look more prominent in the borders.

When beds are tidy, the yard looks more welcoming and attractive.

Step 5: Foundation Plantings, Plants and Flowers

To me, nothing says “welcome to my home” more than happy plants and flowers.

Foundation plantings add warmth and character to the entrance of the home. They accessorize the front exterior and make the home feel warm and cozy.

Tuck in some mid-size deciduous shrubs and evergreens for interest. If you already have foundation plantings, keep them well-manicured and free from blocking main floor windows.

In addition to foundation plantings, consider adding some plants and flowers.

Not much is needed to make a front porch feel welcoming. Two simple containers with plants or flowers flanking the front door can make the perfect entrance.

Since I am a huge plant and flower addict, my property is covered with gardens and blooms.

Having more flowers on the property makes me feel happy, greets visitors with a smile, and adds value to the home.

While you don’t have to have extensive gardens like me to have the best curb appeal, the more you do, the more value you add to the home.

Plants and flowers create a warm and inviting vibe and also attract more pollinators like the birds, bees and butterflies.

Step 5: Lighting

Lighting adds lots of curb appeal and ambiance to the property at night.

Consider adding lights flanking the front door and along walkways to make those areas more visible in the dark.

I recently started adding several types of solar lights around the property.

Do you have any?

Solar lights are made so much better than they used to be!

The ones I just purchased go on as soon as it gets dark and stay on all night. I love them!

Step 6: Home Decor

And finally, it’s important to add some decorative touches to individualize your home while making it feel warm and cozy.

Consider adding a wreath to the front door, a pretty welcome mat, or some garden accessories like birdhouses, fountains and birdbaths.

What Do You Think?

Achieving curb appeal requires some time and dedication to maintaining the exterior of the home but is so worth it!

I realize my gardens might be more than what most people want to maintain, but even the smallest container of flowers adds a warm, welcoming touch.

As you can imagine, having as many gardens as we do takes some time to maintain.

Now that we have the Landroid Mower, we have so much more time to devote to them.

Also, our half acre yard has several flower bed obstacles and the Landroid handles it really well.

I can’t tell you how much better our lawn looks with more frequent mows and we’ve only been using it for a few weeks!
