Holiday Home Decor Ideas for the Front Porch

As an avid gardener, I love to decorate my home with lots of greens and florals.

On my front porch, I love to design cool winter containers with fresh cuttings from my yard.

Some years I do more container garden design that others.

Heading in to the holidays, my front urns were planted simply with dwarf alberata spruces.

I wanted to jazz them up with more greens but keep the spruces, so I underplanted them with fresh cut winter greens.

And I love how they turned out!

Winter container gardens are a great way to extend the gardening season and are much easier to create than they look.

Don’t overlook outdoor containers for holiday decorating ideas.

Planters are low maintenance, require minimal investment and can last through February if properly cared for.

And the best part?

They can be very budget-friendly if you use cuttings from your yard.

I prefer to keep mine with a winter theme so I don’t have to change much when the holidays are over.

But you can totally use more Christmas decorating ideas DIY using red berry sprigs, christmas lights and bows.

When you walk through my front entry, my sweet and goofy black labs are happy to greet you.

They love when company visits, so don’t be surprised if they follow us around while we chat about my garden-inspired holiday home decor ideas.

As you enter my home, you will see my gorgeous staircase adorned with faux greens, Christmas string lights, large pinecones, white berry sprigs and a light beige bow.

Doesn’t it look so pretty?

Since I love gardening, most of my holiday home decor ideas are rustic and garden-inspired.

So adding natural and neutral elements that will transition from season to season drives my decorating style and mirrors what’s happening outside.

When the holidays are over, it is much easier to simplify and transition to winter decor.

You might have noticed that I don’t decorate with poinsettias.

I love poinsettias but they are a short-term holiday plant so when I want to decorate with poinsettias, I go with faux.

Rustic Christmas Home Decor Ideas for the Modern Farmhouse Kitchen

When we renovated the kitchen, we wanted a place where our family and friends would gather comfortably and feel at home.

Since we are hosting Christmas Eve, I cozied up the kitchen island to make it feel more welcoming.

To decorate this space, I added lots of faux greens, twinkle lights, pinecones and battery operated candle lanterns to warm up my holiday decor.

We recently added these vintage framed seed catalogue prints.

This is the first time I decorated my kitchen window and cabinets with garland, small trees and these seriously amazing twinkle lights.

I designed it so I still have room to work and love how the warm and cozy my kitchen feels all lit up.

I love how gorgeous my kitchen looks at night with all the twinkle lights.

Holiday Home Decor Ideas for the Living Room

As you enter my living room, you’ll be greeted with a warm and cozy fire.

I love the ambiance of a fire with cozy holiday home decor, don’t you?

It is tricky to decorate around a large flatscreen TV over the fireplace but I love how it turned out this year!

Since we use our fireplace daily, I use faux greens so they do not dry out and always look gorgeous.

Rustic Farmhouse Holiday Home Decor Ideas for the Mantel

To decorate the mantel, I added two small faux evergreen trees that flank the TV.

Then added a faux cedar branch garland with some fairy lights.

To add more texture and dimension, I tucked in oversized pinecones and neutral, textured ornaments that I found at a local small business.

Every year, my family and I cut down a live tree on Thanksgiving weekend. It is always a struggle to agree on the same tree while in the field.

Do you have that problem too?

Our tree is adorned with with rustic ornaments and pops of red.

These ornaments have been collected over several years and are unbreakable.

Perfect for a home with three kids and two dogs.

I think this is the last year we are buying a real tree for the living room.

Next year, we are adding a faux tree like this one to our Christmas home decorations.

Christmas Decorating Ideas for the Dining Room

One of my favorite rooms to decorate for the holidays is my dining room.

Lots of memories are made here when we host family and friends for dinner parties.

I love to dress up my dining room table with a gorgeous tablescape and centerpiece.

For this year’s centerpiece, I used a vintage toolbox and stuffed it with faux greens, mini trees, Christmas present ornaments, pinecones and fairy lights.

How pretty is the warm glow of the fairy lights on my farmhouse table?

I smile every time I walk by this room because I just love how cozy it feels.

For each holiday table setting, I layered a cedar branch placemat, rattan chargers and two melamine decorative dinner plates that I picked up on clearance last year from the local nursery.

I love the rustic, garden-inspired vibe!

Because I love the wood of my farmhouse table, I prefer to leave it exposed and use table runners to soften the look of the wood.

So I layered this jute table runner over a flannel runner for some additional texture.

This tablescape is perfect for a cozy, casual Christmas dinner.

Holiday Decorating Ideas for the Bedroom

Do you decorate your bedrooms for the holidays?

I didn’t used to, but love doing it now!

There’s something about the soft warm glow of twinkle lights and a pre-lit Christmas tree that makes going to bed a lot more inviting.

To decorate the master bedroom, I added a small tree, twinkle lights, faux greens, cozy throw blankets, some faux fur, pom pom and Christmas throw pillows to the neutral bedding.

Since this bedroom is pretty neutral, I love adding a pop of red to make it feel more festive.
