Why DIY Christmas Decor?

Even if you don’t consider yourself very crafty, it’s a great idea to make your own Christmas DIY decor. Here’s why.

Holiday Crafts Are Budget-Friendly

Let’s face it, the holiday season can be expensive. Am I right? Between gifts, parties, and travel expenses, it’s easy to bust your budget.

But you can make cute Christmas decorations that look like they came directly from Pottery Barn or Anthropologie. Because there are so many Christmas craft ideas that are dupes of products you’d buy at high-end retailers for a fraction of the price.

So crafting your own DIY Christmas decor is very cost-effective and worth your time. And in a lot of cases, you don’t need to be super artistic to make something really cool for the holidays.

You can save a lot of money by using materials you already have, thrifting, or purchasing affordable supplies. Plus, handmade decorations can be reused year after year, making them a sustainable, smart investment of time and materials.

Making Christmas Craft Ideas Is Fun and Rewarding

When you make your own unique Christmas decorations, it’s fun and feels rewarding because you made something really cool for you home.

The process of designing, creating, and seeing your handcrafted decorations come to life brings a sense of accomplishment and joy that can’t be matched by store-bought items.

Whether you’re painting a fun Christmas ornament, crafting wreaths, or making paper snowflakes, the journey of DIY decorating is filled with fun and the satisfaction of knowing you’ve added a personal touch to your holiday celebrations.

Unique and Personalized Christmas Craft Ideas

Store-bought decorations may be beautiful, but they lack the personal touch that DIY creations provide. Crafting your own decor allows you to infuse your personality, style, and creativity into every piece.

It’s an opportunity to tap into your creativity, express your personal style, and infuse your home with a warm, festive spirit that’s all your own.

When You Should Start Making Your Christmas Craft Ideas

The best time to start making your unique Christmas decorations is early to mid-November. This gives you plenty of time to complete your projects without feeling rushed.

Starting early also allows you to enjoy the process, savoring the holiday spirit and making your home feel festive well before Christmas arrives.

And keep in mind, just because you made them in November, doesn’t mean you have to put them up right away. You can easily set it aside until you are ready to decorate your home for the holidays.

9 clever christmas diy ideas you need to try this year

Welcome to the first day of the 10 Days of Christmas where some friends and I are sharing our best holiday decorating, entertaining, food, and all other things for the holidays to get you inspired for Christmas.

The lineup includes:

The 10 Days of Christmas

I’m super excited to share each day with some of my favorite holiday ideas as part of the 10 Days of Christmas.

The ladies I’m sharing with are some of the best in the home decor niche and I feel very blessed to be a part of something so fun with so many talented bloggers.

If you are new here, I’m Stacy, a self-taught master gardener who lives and gardens in northern New Jersey, zone 6a.

We recently moved to a beautiful 1850 Farmhouse with 10 acres of gardens, sculptures and statues.

I’ve been gardening for over 20 years and enjoy helping beginner gardeners find their inner green thumb, as well as discover a love for all things plants and flowers. I love to bring the outdoors inside my home too.

I hope you enjoy visiting my home today and hope you come back so we can grow stuff and create beautiful spaces together.

My Vintage Farmhouse

Since we just moved to our vintage farmhouse less than a year ago, I’m still trying to figure out how to decorate here for the holidays. I’m not totally sure what’s going where or how I’m decorating yet, so I need all of the Christmas inspiration I can get!

My former home leaned more rustic farmhouse but here? I’m moving more towards a boho vintage farmhouse vibe. For the last year, we’ve been updating rooms because most of them were pretty dark and full of faux finishes. You can see all of the transformations here:

Aside from renovating rooms, we’ve been really busy shopping and thrifting to furnish the house too on a budget. And now, I’m looking for some Christmas decorating deals for the season too. Have you found any good bargains yet? If so let me know in the comments below.

But aside from shopping around, I also want to make some unique Christmas DIY ideas too. And now’s the time to make them before the holidays get into full swing and we get too busy to even think about making things.

So don’t wait if you want to make some stuff!

I already started making these paperbag snowflakes. They are super easy to do and look so pretty with any style of Christmas decor, don’t they? I want to add them to our front entry hall with my new, never before seen King of Christmas tree.

Making More Room at the Christmas Table

Oh and if you are racking your brain thinking about how to fit everyone around the holiday table this year, you should try this DIY dining table top for extra seating. We made ours a few years ago in a weekend and it’s the next best thing to sliced bread! It’s much easier than using those wobbly folding tables, so be sure to check it out.
