How to Make No Bake Peanut Butter Pie Recipe

Get ready to make a no-bake peanut butter pie that’s so good, it’ll be the star of your next gathering! This silky, delicious dessert is far from your average pie, and it’s incredibly easy to whip up.

The creamy peanut butter filling is perfectly complemented by a hint of chocolate, and while I love a homemade chocolate cookie crumb crust, a store-bought one works just as well if you’re short on time. No matter how you make it, this no-bake peanut butter pie is sure to become a new favorite!

Ingredients

This recipe is pretty easy to whip up (literally). Grab the following ingredients and mix them all together to make a creamy dessert. Here’s what you need.

  • Pre-Made Chocolate cookie crumble or graham cracker crust (For a homemade recipe, see below)
  • Package of softened cream cheese
  • Creamy peanut butter
  • Sugar
  • Softened butter
  • Vanilla
  • Heavy cream, whipped

I prefer to work with whipped cream cheese versus the block cream cheese because I think it mixes better but you can use either. If you go with block cream cheese, make sure it softens so it’s easier to mix.

While you don’t HAVE to make your own chocolate cookie crumble pie crust, I think it tastes better with it. Plus, making a chocolate cookie crumble pie crust is easy to do and takes minutes to make. Here’s what you need.

  • 1 1/4 Cups Oreo Cookies (about 20) Crushed
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Melted Butter

To make the crust, crush your cookies. You can use a food processor for finer crumbs, or crush them by hand in a ziplock bag for a chunkier texture. Combine the crumbs with the other pie crust ingredients and press into a 9-inch pie plate. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes, then let it cool completely before adding the peanut butter filling.

If you’d prefer to skip making the crust, a store-bought chocolate cookie crumb crust works perfectly!

Directions

Once you determine whether you are making your pie crust from scratch or buying it pre-made, the rest is pretty simple.

  • In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, peanut butter, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Fold in the whipped cream.
  • Then gently spoon the peanut butter mixture into the crust.
  • Garnish with shaved chocolate or cookie crumbs if desired.
  • Refrigerate immediately after preparing so it sets. I’d give it a few hours before slicing into it.

Sounds pretty simple to make, am I right?

Optional Toppings

Get creative with your toppings! Here are some of my favorites

  • Drizzle with melted chocolate or chocolate syrup
  • Sprinkle with chopped peanuts
  • Add a dollop of whipped cream on top
  • Garnish with mini chocolate chips or chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Serving Suggestions

This no-bake peanut butter pie is perfect on its own, but if you’re feeling extra indulgent, try serving it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a warm cup of coffee.

Storage Tips

If you have leftovers (which is rare in my house!), you can store the pie in the refrigerator for up to four days. Just cover it with the plastic lid that came with the crust or wrap it tightly with plastic wrap. For a different twist, you can also freeze the pie. Just make sure to let it thaw for about 10 minutes before serving.

No Bake Peanut Butter Pie Recipe FAQs

Can I use natural peanut butter in this recipe?

Yes, you can use natural peanut butter, but keep in mind that it might change the texture of the filling. Natural peanut butter tends to be more oily and less creamy than regular peanut butter, which can result in a less firm pie. If you do use natural peanut butter, make sure it’s well-stirred to incorporate any separated oils.

How can I make this pie dairy-free?

To make this pie dairy-free, you can use dairy-free alternatives for the cream cheese and whipped topping. Many stores carry vegan cream cheese and whipped toppings made from coconut or almond milk. Ensure all ingredients are labeled dairy-free to accommodate dietary restrictions.

How do I prevent the pie crust from getting soggy?

To prevent the pie crust from getting soggy, you can brush a thin layer of melted chocolate or peanut butter on the crust before adding the filling. This creates a barrier that helps keep the crust crisp. Another tip is to chill the crust for a bit longer to firm it up before adding the filling.

Can I add chocolate to the filling?

Yes, you can add chocolate to the filling for a delicious twist. Melt about 1/2 cup of chocolate chips and fold it into the peanut butter mixture before adding the whipped topping. This will give the pie a rich, chocolatey flavor.

What is the best way to slice the pie neatly?

For clean slices, use a sharp knife and dip it in hot water before cutting each slice. Wipe the knife clean between cuts to ensure smooth edges. This technique helps the knife glide through the creamy filling without dragging or sticking.

Can I make mini peanut butter pies using this recipe?

Definitely! You can use the same filling and crust ingredients to make mini pies. Simply press the crust mixture into the bottoms of a muffin tin or use mini pie crusts. Adjust the chilling time to ensure the filling sets properly.

How can I make the pie more festive for holidays?

To make the pie more festive, you can decorate it with themed toppings such as colored sprinkles, holiday candies, or a drizzle of chocolate and caramel in a decorative pattern. Using cookie cutters, you can also create shapes out of chocolate or fondant to place on top of the pie.

What is Peanut Butter Pie Made Of?

Classic peanut butter pie has peanut butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and cream that is whipped together to make a delicious dessert. It’s typically poured into a flaky crust made from chocolate cookies or graham crackers. If you love a mix of peanut butter and chocolate, I’d go with a chocolate cookie pie crust over graham crackers but that’s just me.

What Type of Crust Works Best for Peanut Butter Pie?

When it comes to peanut butter pie, choosing the crust is a matter of personal preference. For a truly decadent experience, I highly recommend trying the homemade chocolate cookie crumb crust—it’s worth the extra effort!

However, if you’re short on time, a store-bought chocolate cookie crumb crust is a fantastic shortcut. They’re readily available and taste delicious.

My personal favorite is using Oreo cookies for the homemade crust, as it adds an extra layer of chocolatey goodness that complements the peanut butter filling perfectly.
