Random Things Happening Behind the Scenes at Bricks ‘n Blooms

What a week it was!

We enjoyed a fun few days in Vermont on the lake. Chris and I went to the outdoor flea market and found some cool stuff!

Since we chatted last, we had a few unexpected visitors in our pool so have I got a story for you!!

Last week while the pool was being serviced, the pool person found some odd things in the pool filter. One of which was a live milk snake.

Like EWWWWWW right???

Every now and then we find a dead thing or two in the filter. I mean, we live in the woods on 10 acres so it’s bound to happen.

Anyway, fast forward to Sunday when Chris and I were wrapping up the day by the pools when I literally saw a tiny snake’s head pop up as he zipped through the water.

Like it was swimming in the pool along the edge!

So I jumped out of the pool and grabbed the skimmer.

Chris tried to grab the snake to get it out but he totally missed so, like the ninja that I am, I skimmed that sucker right out of the pool.

But he was moving so quick, I thought he was going to slither out so I quickly dumped him over the fence!

Crisis averted, right?

Fast forward a few days later when I was happily swimming laps in the pool and saw that same snake swimming around in the filter.

OK THIS IS NOT COOL – I AM NOT SWIMMING WITH SNAKES!

Luckily, Chris was around at the time so he inspected the filters and there was a dead one in one and a live one zipping around.

Oh my heavens no.

So Chris said he’d swoosh him out of the filter so I could use my fast thinking ninja skills with the skimmer to catch him.

Chris encourages him out and he zipped out of the filter.

But he was not quick enough to escape my fast reflexes with the pool skimmer. So I scooped him out and tossed him into the woods.

It’s been a few days and I have not seen him since. So fingers crossed it has given up on swimming in the pool.

YUCK.

What I’m Shopping For This Week

As I’m decorating for fall and making our house feel more like a home, I picked up a few more things this week and want to share a few great deals I found.

If you are a big fan of Pottery Barn, they are having a huge Labor Day weekend sale where you can get 70% off!

Speaking of sales, Target also has some end of summer deals for 30% off this weekend.

Here’s what I’m shopping for this week!

What’s Happening at Bricks ‘n Blooms

It was a fun week on the blog!

To start the week in the garden, I shared 11 simple gardening tips that will make your life easier. Whether you are a newbie or home decor enthusiast, these hacks will help you successfully grow a garden with ease.

We also chatted about my passion for monstera plants and why you should grow them too. I’m growing two different varieties and find them incredibly easy to grow.

My favorite is the monstera deliciosa because it’s big, it’s beautiful, and the foliage is dramatic! I’m planning to divide it soon and can’t wait to grow more than just one of these pretty plants.

In addition to the monstera plant, I shared my secrets for making tasty meatballs in Italian gravy.

This is my favorite dish to make for Sunday meals. And if you make enough, you’ll have dinner for days.

So come enjoy an amazing Italian dinner with us as I share how to make meatballs in the oven.

Amazing Inspiration from Around the Web

I love finding cool inspiration from around the web and wanted to share some of what I’m loving right now.

My good friend Jennifer from Cottage on Bunker Hill is always duping something cool and this week is no exception.

Wait until you see how she duped some thrift store finds to make these adorable terracotta jackolanterns.

You know how much I love a pretty wreath that you can make yourself for free.

Well my good friend Rachel from the Ponds Farmhouse made this beautiful DIY fall wreath by preserving leaves from her landscape.
