What a week it was!

Behind the Scenes

It’s been a gorgeous week here. I spent some planting time in the gardens. And was up early enough to catch a gorgeous sunrise in the gardens. So I’m going to share some of those photos with you here so you can enjoy the views too!

Last weekend, Chris and I decorated the gardens with pumpkins and cornstalks. And then I tucked in some chrysanthemums to get that beautiful pop of color.

A serene garden scene with a stone pathway leading to a table set with a pumpkin centerpiece. Surrounded by lush greenery and colorful flowers, a white bicycle rests on the left. Tall trees form a natural backdrop.

One of the things I love is how the flowers change during the seasons. And I don’t just mean the perennials. I am talking about how the same flower can look so different in summer and fall.

I’m growing dahlia lifestyle anemone and it was much lighter in color in the summer and now? It’s got deeper hues with an orange center. It’s so cool! Nature is really amazing and I’m in awe of how beautiful each of these flowers are.

Speaking of the dahlias, they are blooming like crazy! So I’ve been out here cutting them almost daily. It’s been hard to keep up with them all! LOL

Speaking of the potager and cut flower garden, I figured out what animal has been eating my fennel! It was none of the above! Let me explain.

Chris added more Ring security cameras around the property and we picked up who’s been dining and dashing in the potager. IT IS A BEAR! I read that they love fennel (I mean, it does settle your stomach). But he’s not eating anything else. All of my tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, etc. are still intact!

I also moved almost all of my houseplants back indoors for the season. Some of them got really really big. My boston fern must be 4’x4′ now – it is a monster! I might have to cut it back next year to keep it in check. Have you ever done this before?

We were suppose to head up to Vermont last weekend but decided to bag it at the last minute. So instead, we went up last night so we can take one last ride on the boat before dropping it off for winterization. The views were spectacular as Vermont is in it’s peak leaf peeping season!

It’s been a random week of stuff! I’m starting to look at fall decor for my home and of course, needed a few odds and ends for the garden. Here’s what I’m shopping for this week!

Since I spent time bringing my houseplants this week, it got me thinking about providing some of them with extra light. They push out SO MUCH growth in the summer with the humidity and extra light. So I bought a few of these plant lights to supplement so I can put them where I want.

They are really great too! You can set it on a timer and stick right in the plant. So far I have one in my Boston Fern and another in my heart leaf philodendron that is nowhere near a window anymore.

As I’m bringing my plants in, I’m also learning that I want more shelving and less individual plant stands. I love this rattan one and am thinking about adding it to my sunroom. It will help the space look less cluttered and fit more plants in front of my huge windows.

I’m also loving these planters! They are so pretty and I want to add a few to my front porch.

And I also really love these scalloped planters too. I’m repotting some divisions and bought a few new houseplants after the book signing event that need pretty terracotta homes.

These are the most popular products on my blog this week!

  1. I have been growing Dahlias for about 3 years now. I have tried a new method of staking them each year and nothing seems to work very well. How do you stake yours? Thanks!
