Random Things Happening Behind the Scenes at Bricks ‘n Blooms

What a week it was!

We went out to dinner on Friday to a local restaurant that was new-to-us.

The Station was really good and I’m sure we’ll be coming here more often!

It was easy to get a table and we love the casual vibe.

Last night, we enjoyed another great dinner out with friends at one of our favorite Italian restaurants, Cafe Sapori.

The service and meals are ALWAYS good.

And the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming.

It’s been a few months since we’ve dropped by, so it was time to venture back.

Dining Room Renovation Update

The dining room is on hiatus until we get some help repairing the drywall.

Some of the spots are not in the best shape, so I’m waiting on my spackling expert to help us out with it.

I’m hoping to get that wrapped up in the next week-ish so we can start painting it.

The paint is already picked out so I’m ready to go!

And I decided to go with Benjamin Moore Simply White on the trim and Benjamin Moore White Dove on the Walls.

Kitchen Renovation Update

In the meantime, we removed the cabinets from the kitchen and it looks AWESOME!!!

There’s more we need to do to it long-term, but for now, it opened up the kitchen and family room.

Ultimately, we need to cut out some of the cabinet bases on the wall and add some wood to finish off the archway.

I didn’t want to completely wreck the walls in here so we gingerly removed what we could to minimize damage.

Down the road, I want to add brick or stone to this wall.

Won’t that look so good?

But for now, we love where it’s going!

I know it might seem like we are all over the place with starting projects, but we are just getting ready for the next step.

What’s New in the Garden

We got a little more snow over the last week.

Even in winter, the gardens look so pretty here.

What’s been most surprising to us since moving here are the birds.

There are so many and they are so active!

Look at them here in the pond.

It was freezing out in the almost negative temps and the birds were enjoying the swimming hole in the ice.

So cute!

  1. Wow what a difference removing the uppers in the pass through made! Loving the idea of doing that arch in brick or stone! (Brick as in bricks and blooms 😉) it will be such a focal point. Your winter birds bathing are adorable. Robins? I don’t really see them here in sunny Florida even in winter so I’m unsure what they are but they’re beautiful. So glad the upholstered walls weren’t covering some major damage, I always wonder if that’s why people cover things. Seems your seller had an adventurous decorating spirit and the execution was superb. I applaud 👏 you for being sensitive to differing styles. Some new home owners unnecessarily say awful things about a previous owners choices. I exclusively use Benjamin Moore paints and can’t wait to see how you create your own beauty in this amazing home.

  2. Stacy,
Oh my gosh, the more I see of your new home the more amazing I know it’s going to be. I love the brick idea. Thanks so much for your support.

  3. I love seeing your home updates. My mom and dad’s 1972 ranch had a similar problem with cabinets blocking the view of the breakfast room. My dad moved the cabinet and adjacent closet and refrigerator to another wall and boy did it make the biggest difference. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks Paula! I bet it did! Even though it still looks a little rough what a difference removing them made! We love it!

  4. I absolutely love how removing those cabinets open up that space. I look forward to seeing what project you’re working on each week. Your gardens, etc., are going to be beautiful as well!

    1. Thanks so much Tamra! We think so too and I cannot wait to get outside and start planting in the gardens! I’m seeing some fun plants break ground now.

  5. I am loving Chris’ guest appearances around here!! He’s going to need his own byline!! It’s so much fun watching all the DIYs you two are doing…much more fun than actually doing the work!!
Thanks so much for sharing my wreaths this week!!

    1. He’s so funny – he probably does! We are having a lot of fun with the house. It’s fun to work on something new.

    2. I love the cabinets removed! And I get the “all over the place” feeling. Same here! Love those birds and can’t wait to watch that garden come to life!

  6. I’m enjoying watching you make the changes to your new home. Taking the cabinets down makes a big difference. Looks so good! Have a great week!

    1. Thank you we love the kitchen and family room so much more now that they are down. We are in here all the time now!

  7. Stacy, I loved watching the removal of the upper cabinets. Hard to believe something so simple makes a HUGE difference. What fun! Also, thank you so much for sharing my Valentine Linzer cookie recipe. They are truly delicious and I must stop eating them…!!

  8. You are so sweet to feature my Valentine’s Day table, Stacy. Thank you. I can’t believe what a difference taking out the cabinets in the kitchen made. Everything seems so much more open. Love what you’re doing to make this house your home.
