In the Garden

I know I say this every week but the gardens look SO GORGEOUS this week! I’ll share some pics below but definitely head over to my YouTube (linked below) so you can see them in real time. Let’s talk about some of my garden spaces because they are breathtaking right now!.

The Zen Garden

I wrapped up planting the pond and containers. Let me tell you how difficult it was planting the pond with the fishing line there to keep the heron out. It felt like I was in the Mission Impossible movie and at one point, I slipped and my foot went right into the pond. I added Taro, sunpatiens, pitcher plant and few other goodies. In the near future, I’ll be sharing some of the water plants I added. But for now, enjoy the spring blooms!

In this garden, I’ve got a Japanese snowbell tree that blooms every other year and smells AMAZING, elderberry black lace, rhododendrons, and a gorgeous mountain laurel.

I potted up my new planter with my bird of paradise as the thriller, sunpatiens and the filler, and bacopa as the spiller. Love love love the combo! The bird of paradise looks so good with the pickerel planted in the pond.

Peonies, Roses, and Honeysuckle

It’s peony week here in my zone 6b garden. Every single one is blooming and I could not be happier! I love them with nepeta walker’s low. It is such a striking plant combination don’t you think?

The rose gardens are POPPING off! It smells amazing here and the fact that Allium Globemaster is still blooming while they do is even better!

And the honeysuckle is in full bloom too! I’ve seen lots of hummingbirds while working in the gardens and I love how they look with ninebark, my roses and alliums too.

Another Step Toward Empty Nesting

But the biggest news this week is bittersweet: my middle daughter has officially flown the coop! We are incredibly happy for her and so proud of everything she’s accomplished, but it’s definitely a strange feeling having one less kiddo at home.

  • I’ve been thinking about getting my husband this outdoor TV cover for his mancave area for Father’s Day. My friends over at Simply 2 Moms love theirs. What do you think?
  • I bought more earthworm castings for my gardens. Adding this to your beds and container gardens is a great way to improve the soil and feed your plants organically.
  • This backpack sprayer has saved me SO MUCH TIME applying deer repellent. I highly recommend it!
  • And I bought some more orchid bark so I can repot my houseplants in a homemade blend of potting soil, bark and perlite.

These are the most popular products on my blog this week!

    1. Thank you! Can you imagine trying to weave your body under all that fishing line! It is surely a challenge! LOL

Your gardens are nothing short of amazing. Just stunning. Thank you for sharing my porch cabinet makeover. Love you girl.

  3. Hi there, just wondering if you recommend a specific soil for houseplants. I used to get mine at a local floral shop but they closed and no one else seems to have one. I always hear that miracle grow is not the best so I thought you might know of one that is good.
Thank you for your newsletter. Very informative

    1. Hi Lee! Depending on what you are growing, I generally use a mix of orchid bark, organic potting soil, perlite and some earthworm castings. But if you want an all in one chunky soil mix instead of buying piecemeal like I do, this is a good brand! (affiliate) https://urlgeni.us/amzn/solsoilschunkymix
