Random Things Happening Behind the Scenes at Bricks ‘n Blooms

What a week it was!

I’ve been busy renovating my bedroom! I know I haven’t shared much of it on here but I’m slowly working on it behind the scenes.

It’s been a catchall space since we moved in so I haven’t tried to really photograph it yet.

But the room is pretty spacious with a GORGEOUS vintage floral area rug. Our bedroom has striped wallpaper that I’d love to take down but it’s going to be a chore so that’s on hold for a bit.

In the meantime, we’ve been thrifting for some vintage furniture pieces. My chaise lounges arrived last week and they are SUPER comfortable. So I’m really happy with that purchase.

We just took down the shades that came with the house and put up some new curtains. I’m hoping it will break up some of the stripes on the walls until we have the time to take down the wallpaper and paint.

Our bedroom has a gas fireplace and huge floor to ceiling windows that overlook the formal garden. It’s a great view and I am thrilled we get to enjoy it from above.

Although I’m only sharing a sneak peek today with my dog, I’ll share a little more when we make some progress.

I also spent some time with my friends this week at our monthly book club. For this month’s read, we read Verity by Colleen Hoover. Have you read it yet?

Although it’s still winter, it was nice enough to be outside. So Chris and I enjoyed a wine tour around the property and talked about all the projects we are taking on out here over the next 6 months.

We have spent so much more time outdoors since moving here than we did the 23 years we lived in the other house. It’s crazy!

It’s not that we couldn’t be outdoors before, but we are outside so much more here. Which makes for an easier winter.

And it was a little chilly after it got dark, but still pretty fun. You just need a warm coat, hat and some gloves. The Yeti wine tumblers work well when you are outside in the cold.

While it’s not super warm out, I’ve been doing some bits of gardening tasks. Mostly cleaning out containers, composting what’s gone and started some winter sowing, but also gathering and cleaning my seed starting supplies because it’s almost time to sow seeds indoors!

I’ve also been spending a lot of time in the sunroom lately. It’s really nice having a space that’s dedicated to my plants with oversized windows that bring in a lot of natural light.

I’ll be shifting this room around temporarily to make room for my seed starts pretty soon but it’s been nice hanging out in here this year while the weather is chilly outside.

What I’m Shopping For This Week

Like I just mentioned, I’m starting to work on our bedroom. We’ve done NOTHING with it since moving in aside from getting a quilt so it’s time to make this more of a cozy room instead of a catchall for stuff.

Here’s what I’m shopping for and what I already bought!

  • I highly recommend these chaise lounges if you are looking for one! I bought two so we could sit in front of the fireplace, enjoy the views and watch TV in our bedroom.
  • Since we aren’t removing the wallpaper just yet, I decided to add some window panels. Not to cover the windows but to soften the edges. We don’t want to take away from the views!
  • These are the curtain rods I bought.
  • This cozy and calming dog blanket to cover my new lounges so my dog’s black fur isn’t all over it. They seem to really love this blanket and it’s protecting the loungers nicely!

What’s Happening at Bricks ‘n Blooms

It was a fun week on the blog!

We kicked off the week with these quick, easy, and delicious mozzarella and tomato caprese appetizer bites. They are perfect for this weekend’s football games or a casual brunch or dinner party too.

But the best part?

You can make these as a sandwich too! I love to make them in my panini press. Do you have one?

Speaking of food, my supper club and I got together for a brunch with a book club theme. Did you catch it?

The tables and entertaining ideas were really creative and looked so pretty! You can see all of the book club ideas here.

We also chatted about ways to beat the winter blahs with some indoor gardening ideas you may not have thought of. Will you be trying any of them?

And finally, I shared 10 easy care houseplants that clean the air. Are you growing any of them? If not, you will be after reading this post!

  1. My little chihuahua/terrier mix loves her blankets. Well, they were my husband’s and my blankets until my dog decided they were hers. My sisters gifted us a pink throw and a turquoise twin size blanket and my dog just knew they were both for her. Then I was gifted another gray throw which she has also claimed for herself. As it stands now, the gray throw is her tvroom throw, the turquoise blanket is where she sleeps on our bed during the day, and the pink throw is on the couch in basement…while my husband and I just add sweaters and shiver. No, she’s not spoiled at all.

  2. Thanks so much for sharing my tablescape this week. Can’t wait to see your bedroom makeover.

  3. Happy weekend, Stacy. Thanks so much for sharing a link to my coffee cake recipe. I hope you enjoy it. And can’t wait to see what you’re up to in your bedroom!

  4. Stacy, your new home sounds so wonderful. That sunroom! And I cannot wait to see your bedroom remodel. My husband and I love taking wine walkabouts in the late afternoon around our property. It’s a time to reconnect and talk about all the projects that need completing!

  5. Your book club group looks fun. We started one, but it was just a drinking and eating club so we renamed it appropriately! I’m so excited to see your bedroom when it’s done. Thank you so much for sharing my forsythia post, Stacy. You are the best.
