What Is Tiger Butter Fudge?
Tiger Butter is a yummy confection with a marbled design of white chocolate and peanut butter swirled with semi-sweet chocolate. It gets its name from its resemblance to the stripes of a tiger. While the exact origins are a bit murky, it seems to have gained popularity in the 1980s as a homemade candy. Some believe it may have been inspired by the combination of peanut butter and chocolate in Buckeye candies. Whatever its history, one thing’s for sure: it’s a roaringly good treat!
What I love most about this recipe is the simplicity! Because there are only three ingredients. Isn’t that the best? The creamy combination of white and semi-sweet chocolate chips with peanut butter whips up pretty quickly to make this crazy good homemade dessert that your family and friends will rave about.
Which makes it a simple dish to make for the holidays or really any time of year. But I prefer to make it more around the holidays because it’s a great dish for cookie exchanges, small holiday gifts, and to share at Christmas parties.
When you are finished making tiger butter fudge, both chocolates create a marbelized design that looks a little like tiger stripes.

Ingredients and Supplies Needed To Make Tiger Butter Homemade Fudge
While this recipe for tiger butter fudge only has 3 ingredients, there are a few supplies you’ll need to make it. Here’s what you need.
Directions to Make Tiger Butter Homemade Fudge
- Melt the white chocolate: Place the white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until melted and smooth.
- Add the peanut butter: Stir in the peanut butter until completely combined.
- Line a pan: Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
- Pour and swirl: Pour the white chocolate and peanut butter mixture into the prepared pan.
- Melt the semi-sweet chocolate: Place the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a separate microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until melted and smooth.
- Create the tiger stripes: Pour the melted semi-sweet chocolate over the peanut butter layer. Use a knife or toothpick to swirl the two chocolates together, creating a marbled effect.
- Chill and serve: Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm. Cut into squares and enjoy!
Tiger Butter Fudge Variations and Substitutions
- Chocolate: Experiment with different types of chocolate, such as milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or even butterscotch chips.
- Peanut Butter: Use crunchy peanut butter for added texture or try other nut butters like almond or cashew butter.
- Mix-ins: Add chopped nuts, pretzels, or sprinkles for extra flavor and crunch.
- Swirl it up: Instead of a marbled effect, try creating distinct layers of peanut butter and chocolate.
Troubleshooting
- Fudge not setting: If your fudge isn’t setting, it might be due to the chocolate not being fully melted or the mixture not being chilled long enough. Try re-melting the fudge and chilling it for a longer period.
- Fudge too hard: If your fudge is too hard, you may have overcooked the chocolate. Next time, try microwaving in shorter intervals and stirring more frequently. You can also try adding a tablespoon of butter or cream to the melted chocolate to make it softer.
Storing Your Tiger Butter Fudge Recipe
- Storing: Store leftover fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. That is if you can avoid eating it all before then! LOL!
- Freezing: Yes, you can freeze tiger butter fudge! Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then place it in a freezer-safe bag or container. It will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
Note: if you are planning the best time to make it before Christmas, you’ll want to give yourself no more than 2 weeks.
