Styling My Latest Thrift Store Find With Plants – A Garden-Inspired Entryway

See how I styled my latest thrift store find with houseplants, greenery, and garden-inspired touches to create a cozy entryway in my Zone 6B farmhouse.

This thrift store find was such a fun addition to my entryway, and in this post I’m sharing how I styled it using plants, greenery, and simple garden-inspired touches to bring the outdoors in.

The Thrift Store Adventure

Have you ever seen a piece while thrifting around that you knew you needed but weren’t sure what you were going to do with it? Yep, that’s my latest thrift store find.

While we were wandering through the Habitat for Humanity Restore a few weeks ago, I stumbled upon the most gorgeous cabinet tucked between a bunch of random pieces. At first, I almost missed it — it was hiding — but once I saw the marble top and carved wood details, it was game over.

This piece was coming home with me.

Chris was looking at something else across the store, so naturally I tried whisper-yelling his name…
You know that frantic “come here right now” whisper all spouses know?
Yeah. That one. 😂

He didn’t hear me.

And the Restore was packed that day, so I wasn’t about to leave this beauty unattended for one second. The price was $100, which is basically unheard of for a piece with this kind of craftsmanship and a real marble countertop.

So I did what any determined thrifter would do —
I started calling his cell phone… from ten feet away.
Classy? No. Effective? Yes. 😆

Eventually he wandered over, took one look at the piece, and agreed it was too good to pass up.

So into the truck it went.

The Details on This Piece Are Incredible

The woodwork is absolutely stunning. It is intricate, solid, and full of character.
Every time I look at it, I’m still shocked it was only $100.

We tossed around the idea of converting it into a bathroom vanity by adding a vessel sink, which honestly would look amazing, but the depth is just a little too big for our powder room. So for now, it’s living in the foyer…

…and honestly, it might stay here forever.

It fits so well between the window and the front door, gives me much-needed storage, and is such a warm, welcoming first impression when you walk into the house.

But after a while, we decided to move it to the other side of the front entry hall, in a vestibule below a gorgeous oval shaped window. And it fits perfectly in this spot!

Here it is below with my heartleaf philodendron, norfolk island pine tree and some decor.

🌿 How I Styled It With Plants

When I brought the piece inside, I immediately knew I wanted to style it with plants. I’ve been leaning more and more into bringing the outdoors in — using houseplants, natural elements, and clippings from my garden to decorate.

So instead of styling it with typical entryway decor, I went with a garden-inspired look that changes through the seasons:

1. Houseplants for height and texture

I like to use a mix of leafy houseplants to give the top of the cabinet life and movement. Plants soften the lines of vintage furniture and help blend the garden with my home.

2. A vintage crock filled with greenery and blooms

This piece is perfect for displaying a crock filled with seasonal greenery — sometimes faux, sometimes clippings from the garden depending on the time of year.

In the photo below I styled it with my fiddle leaf fig that loves this sunny east-facing window and fresh cut flowers from my garden with a small maidenhair fern in a cute little vintage turtle planter.

3. A small plant-friendly vignette

A vintage frame, a thrifted bowl, rattan storage boxes, or even a small birdhouse help create a cozy vignette. But the real statement comes from the plants layered around them.

4. A bright, welcoming entryway moment

This cabinet makes the foyer feel alive, warm, and connected to the garden outside. Since that oval window gets eastern light, it’s the perfect spot to put plants like my ficus, hoyas, and philodendrons. But even on cold or gloomy days, placing plants in every nook and cranny of my home like this adds much cheer into the space.

Why I Love Mixing Vintage + Plants

Vintage furniture and plants are a match made in heaven. The natural textures of the wood, the patina of age, and the organic shapes of plants work together beautifully.

Plus:

• Plants instantly warm up an entryway
• They add color and movement
• They connect your home to the outdoors
• They bring garden energy to indoor spaces
• They make vintage pieces feel purposeful, not just decorative

This piece absolutely shines when styled with greenery.

Will I Ever Flip This Piece?

Maybe someday it will become a bathroom vanity.

Maybe not.

For now, it’s perfect right where it is. and I’m loving how easy it is to refresh with different houseplants and garden-inspired décor throughout the year.

And honestly? It might be one of my favorite thrift finds ever.

Now I’m itching to go back and see what other treasures are waiting.
