In the Garden

The new cottage garden looks incredibly beautiful right now with thalictrum (meadow rue), alliums, and so much more – did you catch the tour on my YouTube Channel yet? I’ll share some highlights throughout this post but let me tell you – it is gorgeous here right now in this garden. I’ve got the tour linked below.

Another highlight is my pond in the zen garden that is starting to bloom. Rhododendrons, mountain laurel, Japanese snowbell and lots of sunpatiens have brightened up this space. It’s breathtaking and a great spot to relax, unwind, and enjoy the koi fish.

We’ve had a ton of rain this week so planting has been slowed down. But I managed to plant all of my supertunia borders, some planters, and a few other nooks and crannies around the gardens but I’m definitely not finished yet! More to follow.

A small garden pond with clear water is surrounded by rocks, green plants, and pink flowers. A gentle waterfall cascades over stones, and lush foliage frames the peaceful landscaped scene.

Plants of the Week!

I’m going to start highlighting some favorite garden blooms from the week so you can see the plants and varieties I’m growing. Here are a few that I’m loving this week!

A Garden Party With Martha Stewart

This week, I was invited to attend a Garden Party with Martha Stewart who is such an ICON. She answered lots of questions, talked about her Bedford gardens, and shared her perspective on gardening as we celebrated the release of her 101st book! Can you believe she’s written that many books? Speaking of which…did you buy it yet? If not, grab your copy here.

One of biggest takeaways for me was how she adapted after the emerald ash borer took out several trees in her Bedford garden. She explained how she rolled with the changes and created a bird sanctuary after the loss. It was a great lesson that not all things grow as we plan and as gardeners, must be able to adapt with nature.

I also met some gardening friends in real life – Resh Gala – a fellow New Jersey gardener and the Curly Cultivators.

Two people (martha stewart and kevin) sit on stage during a discussion. The woman on the left speaks while holding a card; the man on the right listens. A green book is displayed on the table between them, with a green "Threads" backdrop behind.
Two women smiling for a selfie indoors. One is wearing a pink patterned top, and the other is wearing a straw hat and denim jacket. A green backdrop with "Threads" logos is visible behind them.
Four women stand smiling together in front of a green backdrop with "Threads" and circular "M" logos, all wearing colorful, patterned dresses and event badges. Flowers and greenery are visible at their feet.

Date Night at a Gala

Chris and I snuck out for an evening of fun at a Gala that his company was sponsoring. Would you believe I spent the day in the gardens just before we went out? Yup! Had lots of dirt under my nails but I cleaned up well before attending the event.

Link to where I bought my dress here. I bought this a few years ago, but they’ve got lots of great looks!

A smiling couple stands on grass in a garden. The woman wears a long teal dress and holds a woven bag; the man wears a gray blazer, white shirt, and brown shoes. Colorful flowers and green trees fill the background.

My Daughter Graduated From Rutgers

My oldest daughter Mackenzie graduated from Rutgers University with her Masters in Social Work. She has worked so hard over the last year and a half and we are incredibly proud of her achievement.

  1. What a crazy week!! Martha was just the icing on the cake.
I woke up to a sunny morning and I think I’m in shock!!

  2. Your gardens, I have no appropriate descriptor, as to how beautiful they are. Architectural, stunning, gorgeous, a feat of nature, breathtaking, see what I mean? Oh, eye candy, the pictures are beautiful, yet somehow do they do the gardens justice fully, all great visual objects are better in person, I will have to live vicariously through your pictures. Kim

    1. THANK YOU Kim!!! It’s truly an honor that we we are living here! And so much fun putting my spin on the bones the former homeowners created!
