Random Things Happening Behind the Scenes at Bricks ‘n Blooms
What a week it was!
In the Garden
After a great Labor Day Weekend in Vermont, I hit the ground running in the beds this week. With cooler temperatures it is much easier to get things done out there so I spent some time deadheading, cutting flowers, weeding, and planning!
There are so many perennials that I want to dig, divide, and move around. I want to add some leaf mold and compost to the beds. So it is shaping up to be a busy fall!
Oh and I am also looking to plant all of my containers near the porches soon too. I love this time of year.
Sadly, the zinnias are showing signs they are calling it a day for the season. They are starting to get powdery mildew on them. If you are noticing it in your gardens too, I’d just leave them be. The cooler nights and warm days are the cause for it and there isn’t much you can really do at this point.
Sure you can waste time and money trying to use neem oil but it’s not really worth it at this point and hurts the pollinators (yes, even though it is organic it can still hurt those incredible pollinators that are vital to our ecosystems).
My dahlias and celosia are looking really really good! They’ve both hit their stride and I took some great pics this week and I’m sharing with you here.
I think my favorite dahlia right now is Creme de Cassis. It is a waterlily dahlia with purple and white details on the tops of the petals and the undersides have a deeper hue. Really beautiful bloom!
In My Home
This week, I spent time decorating my home for fall. A bit late for a blogger but I was just not feeling the push this year. I don’t know about you, I but I am so tired of being sold to on socials, telling me when I need to do this and do that.
I will do it when my gardens tell me it’s time – and they are telling me it’s time! So here we are.
My family room got a total makeover with that new area rug I bought a few weeks ago. It took some getting used to at first because it has much more color than my previous area rug but I LOVE IT. I’ll snap some pics this week and share it with you next. It really warmed up the space!
Behind the Scenes
Today, Chris and I are heading to the opening game for the NY Giants. It’s going to be a beautiful day so hopefully we’ll get a win today. We are heading to one of our good friend’s tailgate parties pretty early this morning as the game kicks off at one!
