In the Garden

Although we haven’t had a frost yet, I started cleaning the beds up one by one. We are nearing the end of October and I’d like to get the beds ready for spring bulb planting. Cause I’ve got at least 1000 ready to go in the ground in early November.

I pulled all of my elephant ears and tuberous begonias from every pot, got the dirt off, and am allowing them to dry before I store them for the season.

And I heavily cut back the raised beds in the potager because three of those beds are getting filled with tulilps! The other two need a facelift with some cool season vegetables that I bought this weekend. Planting them this week. I’m a little late to the party but the tomatoes were still going so I just didn’t get out there to make the space!

New Houseplants

Remember when I said I’m in my hoya era? Well, I’ve added to my collection this week. The fact that they bloom with a beautiful fragrance, are easy to grow, and vine enticed me to try some new varieties. Here’s what I bought:

  • Pot of Gold
  • Lisa
  • Callistophylla Black Cat
  • DS-70 variegated
  • Shepherdii
  • Heuschkeliana inner variegated
  • Endauensis
  • Pubicalyx Splash
  • Krinkle outer variegated
  • Wayetii variegated

Another One Leaves the Nest

If you can hand me another box of tissues, I’d greatly appreciate it. My oldest daughter, Mackenzie is moving to NYC and I am having a hard time picking myself up. She moved back in after she graduated Bucknell and studied at Rutgers Grad School from here. So, she’s been here a while and believe me, I totally appreciate the time spent!

But it’s time for her to move out and get on her own. I know this. But it’s still hard to watch her leave! We are moving her in tomorrow and this mom is trying to keep it together as she goes.

She’s also taking the kitten we raised since last year, so I’m not just losing her, but our sweet little kitty too.

That’s two out of my three kids who’ve begun their life in the world. One to go – luckily she’s still in college but is not far behind. She has big plans already so I better buckle up!

  • Because I’ve lost 15 pounds, I needed to size down in these super comfy denim jeans. OMG I was so upset I was swimming in the other pair. It runs a little large as it is so sizing down was a must or I can’t even wear them anymore. Luckily, they are on major sale and markdown!
  • Fall skirt alert! This one is perfect for Thanksgiving.
  • I bought this beaded necklace.
  • This comfy floral dress for fall.
  • And how cozy is this blanket kimono? I love wearing these with a t-shirt and pair of jeans.
  • I bought this new belt too!

    1. I like Canopy Plant Co., Plant Vault, Bros with Plants for online retailers, but you can also find them at local nurseries or big box stores – they just might not have as much of a selection!

  1. I can’t wait to see your spring gardens, especially the tulips you’re about to plant. Have you ever had success over-wintering Geraniums outside in plantpots? Mine are huge and happy, alas, I don’t have room inside to bring in slips. I have heard inklings of this being possible, so maybe, I’ll try anyway. Kim
