In the Garden

The cottage garden is filling in and looking so pretty! The colors have shifted from peaceful pinks and purples to warmer hues like yellows and reds.

In the potager, my cool season vegetables are essentially done and as I’m looking around – it is time to pull them! Truth be told, I won’t get to it until next week though, so I’m going to live with it until then.

My snapdragons are all starting to flower, and I’ve already cut a few bouquets! And my zinnias are just starting to bloom too. The china asters and strawflowers are not far behind. I lost a few dahlias to all the rain we had – but most are all coming up and doing really well. It looks like a few are getting ready to bloom too! Can’t wait to see it all come together!

But the big news this week is, we are redoing the pool deck! Originally, we weren’t planning to do this until the end of the summer, but they had an opening, so we are taking it. I am publishing a before video on my YouTube Channel sharing the space so you can see it later this week. Initially, I wanted to get the video out over the weekend, but decided to hold off until this week so I could take a breather and enjoy the long holiday weekend instead (more on that below).

If it doesn’t rain, the pool deck area should be done on Friday so fingers crossed the weather cooperates this week!

Plants of the Week!

I’m highlighting some favorite garden blooms from the week so you can see the plants and varieties I’m growing. Here are a few that I’m loving this week!

Beach Getaway

Chris and I spent the weekend in Surf City, LBI with my sisters in law. We had the best time and it was so fun catching up. The weather was gorgeous all weekend long too! We watched the fireworks on the bay, spent some chill time on the beach, and enjoyed wine and cheese on the deck. Now that’s my kind of weekend!

Heatwave SOS: Help Your Garden Bounce Back & Beat the Next Scorcher!

Phew! That last heatwave really put our gardens to the test, didn’t it? It’s tough to see your gorgeous plants looking stressed, scorched, or even wilting after enduring such intense summer heat. We just had 100 degree temps last week and the struggle is real!

So you’re not alone if you’re wondering how to help your garden recover, and more importantly, how to prepare them for the next inevitable heatwave. Cause you know it’s coming!

The good news is, your garden can bounce back! With the right strategies and a few key products, you can revive your heat-stressed plants and help build their resilience for whatever summer throws their way.

1) Revive & Recover: Plant Stress Relievers

Just like us, plants need a little extra help after a stressful event. Plant Tonics  with ingredients like kelp, humic acids, or beneficial microbes are like a power-up for your plants. They help reduce shock, stimulate root growth, and improve overall plant health, making them more capable of recovering from heat stress and better prepared for future challenges.

2) Instant Relief: Shade Cloth for Sensitive Plants

Sometimes, your most delicate plants just need a break from the relentless sun. Shade Cloth provides immediate relief, creating a cooler microclimate that protects tender leaves and prevents scorching. It’s easy to set up over vulnerable beds, newly planted seedlings, or sensitive container plants, offering a crucial barrier against direct, intense sunlight.

3) Deep Hydration: Efficient Watering Tools

Proper watering is absolutely critical, especially during and after heatwaves. Instead of surface sprinkling, aim for deep, consistent moisture.

  • Watering Wands help you deliver water precisely to the root zone without waste.
  • For larger areas, Soaker Hoses or a Drip Irrigation Kit are incredibly efficient, providing slow, steady hydration directly to the soil, minimizing evaporation, and ensuring your plants get a thorough drink.

4. Cool & Conserve: The Power of Mulch

If you haven’t mulched yet, now’s the time! A generous layer of Mulch around your plants acts like a protective blanket, drastically reducing water evaporation from the soil surface around your plants is a total game-changer. It acts as an insulator, keeping soil temperatures cooler and drastically reducing moisture evaporation. This means less watering for you and happier, less stressed roots for your plants during hot spells.

5. Self-Sufficient Containers: Self-Watering Planters

For your container plants that often bear the brunt of summer heat, Self-Watering Planters are a lifesaver. They’re perfect for small containers on patios and balconies. Self-Watering Pots like thisthis, and this feature clever built-in reservoirs that slowly release water to the roots, keeping plants quenched for days.

Don’t let summer heat win the battle in your garden! Equip your plants with the tools they need to recover and thrive.

  • I ordered a few more solar lanterns! I’ve had these for years and want to tuck a few more in around the pool after it’s all finished.
  • I snagged some organic rose care to help keep my roses healthy.
  • Since we’ve had so much rain and it’s been so hot, I started focusing on my indoor spaces again. I bought this fun wall clock for my living room. It’s the perfect touch!
  • And I also bought this GORGEOUS sunflower wall art too! We haven’t hung it up yet but hopefully Chris can do it when we get back early this week.
  • This skirt is the BEST! It’s a top seller this week among my audience and I have it in a few colors. It is lightweight, super flowy, and great to wear all summer long. Garden chic at it’s finest!
  • I also had a lot of questions about my garden tool belt – and let me tell you how much it has helped me not lose my tools! I have a tendency to put them down and forget them so this keeps them on me at all times.

  1. Please do share pictures of the artwork and clock after they have been hung. Once again, the garden pictures are just, wow, I am particularily interested in the daylilies, as I am finding they are one of the few plants the rabbits are not interested in around here. More varieties, the better! Kim

  2. I love how the star of the north daylily looks in your garden bed! What a pretty color combo it has.
