What a week it was!

In the Garden

We haven’t had a frost yet and rain is nowhere in sight. It’s really bad because everything is so dry and I am done watering stuff. As a result, I’m pushing back dividing and transplanting perennials until the weather helps me take care of things.

Since I haven’t spent time dividing anything yet, I pulled all of my tender perennials and some annuals this week to overwinter them indoors while I have the time. I think the savings for me next year from doing all this will be close to $500. So totally worth doing!

I still have to bring my bouganvillea indoors – it quadrupled in size since purchasing it in the spring! Because it is so large, I needed to enlist my husband to help me relocate it to my garage for winter storage.

After getting all those perennials in the ground last weekend, I noticed the deer came through and nibbled on some of the plants. Of course, I did not spray them before planting like I usually do, so I’m on damage control now. The plants will be fine but see – can’t get complacent. Ever! (This is the deer repellent that I used after the fact.)

Oh and did you see the stuff I’ve been making from my garden flowers? On Instagram, I shared this video about making a wreath for my front door using an old grapevine wreath with hydrangeas, celosia, ageratum, gomphrena, and magnolia foliage to create a lush unique look! I love how it turned out, don’t you? Watch this quick Instagram reel here.

My Latest Obsession

I’ve got a new obsession I cannot wait to tell you about! So I’ve been growing indoor plants for several years. I’ve even got a few that are well over 15 years old. It took me a while to find success with them before I got the hang of it and I’ve been growing a lot of the same plants since I started from propagating.

After challenging myself this past winter with plants I failed with as well as some newbies. They’ve all been thriving and I am hooked on trying more!!! I’ve been adding some plant babies lately and looking into more rare or hard-to-find indoor plants that look so cool (but easy) to grow.

So as we shift from working outdoors in the gardens, I’ll be sharing some indoor gardening experiences, what I’m growing, how my home is filling in and blooming! It took me some time to branch out into new things and I’m really excited about trying different plants I’ve not worked with before. Stay tuned!

It’s been a random week of stuff! I’m starting to look at fall decor for my home and of course, needed a few odds and ends for the garden. Here’s what I’m shopping for this week!

Since I’ve been bitten by the rare indoor houseplant bug, I’m preparing my home to be even more hospitable to indoor plants so they all thrive. After watching some of the newbies really flourish outdoors this summer, I decided to bring that environment indoors for the winter. So plants that will receive less than stellar light are getting plant lights and I’m adding more humidity to my sunroom and family rooms.

This is the humidifier I bought. It’s pretty cute, right? I noticed my calathea, alocasia, and ferns didn’t love the drier air so putting moisture back into the air will help these thrive more while they are indoors for the season.

Alocasia plant with large, dark green leaves in a beige pot, placed on a table by a sunlit window. Another plant with heart-shaped leaves is in a yellow pot on the same table. Sunlight highlights the texture and veins of the leaves.

And I can’t recommend adding humidity into the indoor environment enough! The sunroom feels like a true tropical haven now between the plants and the extra humidity. I love it!

I also bought this systemic and organic houseplant insecticide to keep them all healthy. I’ve not used it before but saw it recommended by other gardeners that I trust so I’m going to use it.

And finally, I purchase clear nursery pots! This will help me see the soil so I can see how the roots are doing and how dry the soil is.

These are the most popular products on my blog this week!
