I enjoy white wine. I’m mostly into Chardonnays with the occasional dabble in Pinot Grigios and Rieslings but white wines are my jam!
Sometimes, I want to lighten them up calorically and add some fun flavors to a glass of wine so I enjoy making different recipes for wine spritzers.
Have you had one before?
There are lots of recipe options to making them and a few basics to keep in mind. I prefer white wine spritzers in the summer but occasionally make them year-round depending on my mood.
Because sometimes, I want a cocktail that is both light in calories AND alcohol.

What is a Wine Spritzer?
First things first. What is a wine spritzer and why would I want to mess with a beautiful glass of wine to make one?
White wine spritzers are a great way to add some glam to a bottle of white and are one of the easiest cocktails to make.
Stripped down, it is prepared with two ingredients: wine and sparkling water or club soda. Me, I prefer to make them with sparkling water but it’s a matter of preference.
And the key to making the best wine spritzer recipe is to make sure both ingredients are chilled well.
These fun cocktails help make lower-quality wines taste better, opens up the aromatics in the wine, and are refreshing to boot.
But I love them because they lighten up both caloric and alcoholic intake without sacrificing the fun.
What Kind of Wine Works Best in a Spritzer Recipe?
The best wines that work well in white wine spritzer recipes are sauvignon blancs, rieslings, and pinot grigios, but can also be made with chardonnays too.
Which is usually what I have on hand, so I tend to make them with Chardonnay.
How Do You Make a White Wine Spritzer?
With only 2 ingredients to mix, it all comes down to the size of your glass and the ratios.
But in general, a 3:1 ratio works best (1 part sparkling water to 3 parts wine). But feel free to adjust that based on your own personal preferences and the size of your glass.
If you need to measure it out, it typically works out to be about a cup and a half of wine to 1/2 cup club soda or sparkling water.
3 White Wine Spritzer Recipes You Should Try
While white wine spritzers are a simple cocktail to make, there are a few variations you should try.
Lemon Basil Spritzer
This recipe combines my favorite flavor combinations: lemon basil and white wine. It’s got some zest, is refreshing, and is the perfect year-round cocktail.
Muddle a few basil leaves in a glass. Then add the juice from one lemon, then mix in your wine and club soda. Garnish with lemon slices and fresh basil. Serve with ice.
I sometimes make the mixture without the club soda and put it back in the fridge to chill to let the flavors meld for a bit before mixing the whole spritzer.
And then when I’m ready to serve it, I’ll add the club soda, ice, and garnish. Try it both ways and see which way you like it better.
Strawberry Limeade Spritzer
This recipe is perfect for summer parties because it’s light, refreshing, and fruity. I love strawberry beverages in warmer weather.
Oh and this one pairs perfectly with grilled foods too.
After removing the stems, muddle a few strawberries in the bottom of a glass. Add a tablespoon of agave syrup and the juice from one lime.
Then add the wine and club soda or sparkling water ratio and serve over ice. Garnish with strawberries and limes.
If you want to add a little extra kick, add a shot of vodka too. That’s a fun twist on the beautiful cocktail.
Lemon Lime Spritzer
To me, the lemon-lime spritzer is one of the easiest to make. I love the tart and tangy flavors of the lemon and lime with the zip of club soda and sauvignon blanc.
Start with the wine and club soda or sparkling water ratio. Then squeeze the juice of one lime and one lemon into the glass over ice.
Garnish with fresh lemon and lime slices. Serve with ice.
If you want to add a little more zing to this one, you can add a shot of vodka too.
