Supper Club
This post is being shared as part of my monthly supper club. Have you been following along with our parties?
We’ve been having a great time and this month we are celebrating fall with an adult Halloween Party where we are sharing lots of entertaining, table centerpieces, and decorating ideas together with an incredible menu.
In case you are new here, I’m Stacy, a self-taught master gardener who lives and gardens in northern New Jersey, zone 6a.
We recently moved to a beautiful 1850 Farmhouse with 10 acres of gardens, sculptures and statues.
I’ve been gardening for over 20 years and enjoy helping beginner gardeners find their inner green thumb, as well as discover a love for all things plants and flowers. I love to bring the outdoors inside my home too.
I hope you enjoy visiting my home today and hope you come back so we can grow stuff and create beautiful spaces together.
How to Throw a Rustic Elegant Halloween Party for Adults
Throwing a fun Halloween party for adults requires careful planning and attention to detail to ensure your guests have a memorable and enjoyable time.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you host a fantastic Halloween party for adults:
Choose a Theme
Selecting a theme for your Halloween party sets the tone and helps with decorations, costumes, and activities.
Some popular themes include Gothic, Masquerade, Classic Horror Movies, Vintage Halloween, and Haunted House. Whatever you choose, make sure your theme aligns with the preferences of your guests.
Send Invitations
Create eye-catching invitations that match your chosen theme. You can send physical invitations or use digital platforms like email or social media to invite your guests. Include important details like date, time, location, dress code, and any special instructions.
Costumes should be mandatory! I mean, this is a Halloween party!
Decorate Spookily
Transform your party space with Halloween decorations. Use cobwebs, spider decorations, pumpkins, candles, and eerie lighting to set a spooky atmosphere. Consider a mix of DIY and store-bought decorations to add a personal touch.
Plan Costume Fun
Encourage your guests to dress up in creative and elaborate costumes. Consider hosting a costume contest with categories like Scariest Costume, Funniest Costume, and Most Creative Costume. Offer prizes to winners to make it more competitive and exciting.
Create a Scary Playlist
Compile a Halloween-themed playlist that includes spooky soundtracks, classic Halloween songs, and dance-worthy tunes. Music sets the mood and keeps the party lively.
Prepare Halloween Treats
Serve a variety of Halloween-themed food and drinks. Create a Halloween party menu that includes spooky appetizers, cocktails, and desserts. Consider having a self-serve bar with themed drinks like “Witch’s Brew” or “Vampire’s Kiss.”
Organize Fun Activities
Plan activities that fit your theme and entertain your guests. Some ideas include:
- Pumpkin carving or decorating contests.
- A haunted house or escape room experience.
- Tarot card readings or fortune telling.
- Scary movie screenings.
- Party games like charades with Halloween-themed clues.
Offer Party Favors
Prepare goodie bags or party favors for your guests. Fill them with small Halloween-themed items like mini pumpkins, candies, or novelty items that tie into your theme.
Ensure Safety
If alcohol is served, encourage responsible drinking and arrange for designated drivers or rideshare options. Arrange for Ubers or Lyfts so guests can responsibly get home after a fun evening. And provide plenty of non-alcoholic beverages and snacks for your guests.
Capture the Moments
Set up a photo booth with Halloween props and backdrops. Encourage your guests to take pictures throughout the party to capture the fun memories.
Plan for Safety
Safety should be a top priority. Make sure your party venue is well-lit and free of tripping hazards. If you’re using candles, keep them away from flammable decorations and materials.
Keep the Energy High
As the host, it’s your responsibility to keep the energy level up. Engage with your guests, participate in activities, and make sure everyone is having a good time.
Thank Your Guests:
After the party, send thank-you messages to your guests for attending. It’s a thoughtful way to show your appreciation and ensure they feel valued.

About My Halloween Table Decor
To set the table, I started with a jute table runner. Then added a beautiful centerpiece that I made using this vintage compote bowl, fresh-cut flowers from my garden, and floral foam.
The flowers used in this centerpiece include:
I flanked my centerpiece with vintage candlesticks and taper candles. And added two witch hats to make it feel a little more festive for Halloween.
To add a little creep to the table, I cut some fresh ivy from my gardens and layered it on the table. Because the vines would wilt, I used these floral vials to keep them hydrated through the dinner party.
For each place setting, I started with a cedar branch placemat, then layered it with a gold charger, stoneware dinner plate, plaid napkin, a black stoneware dessert plate, and topped each off with a faux pumpkin.
To add a little more gold to the table, I used gold flatware tied with twine and tucked in some fresh sage from the garden. And I used my vintage amber wine goblets for a little extra sparkle.
For more ambiance, I tucked in some votive candles and these adorable mini gold lanterns to complete the look for my Halloween table decor.
