Ingredients
  

  • 32 oreo cookies (24 for the base, 8 for the topping)
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 8 ounces whip topping
  • 1 cake mix devils food or any chocolate cake mix
  • 2 sticks salted butter sliced into pats

Instructions
 

  • Spray your 9x13 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. This is key for easy removal and serving later.
  • Arrange the Oreos in a single, even layer on the bottom of the dish. Don't worry about perfection; just make sure they're mostly touching.

  • Drizzle the entire can of sweetened condensed milk evenly over the Oreo layer. This adds a rich sweetness and helps bind everything together.
  • Spread the thawed whipped topping over the condensed milk. This creates a creamy, dreamy layer.
  • Sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix evenly over the whipped topping. No need to mix or prepare it in any way – that's the magic of a dump cake!
  • Crush a handful of extra Oreos into coarse crumbs. Sprinkle these crumbs evenly over the cake mix layer. This adds a fantastic textural element with extra Oreo cookie flavor.
  • Distribute the sliced butter pats evenly over the cake mix and cookie crumble. This will create a wonderfully moist and decadent cake.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the cake looks set and the edges are bubbly. The top might still appear a bit soft, but it will firm up as it cools.

Notes

If you need more or less butter pats, adjust accordingly. The idea is to have them melt on the cake so to help it set while in the oven.
If some of your cake mix still looks powdery, cut an extra pat of butter and allow it to melt on the top while the cake is still hot.
