If you are planting bearded iris this year, it is so important to plant them correctly so they bloom and thrive.  Learn how to properly plant them with these simple tips.

If you are new to growing bearded irises or are struggling to get them to bloom, it's really important that you plant them properly.

Because when irises are planted too deeply, they'll put out foliage but may not bloom.

Here's what you need to know to plant them right and get the most blooms.

Bearded irises grow from underground stems called rhizomes, which produce new leaves and flowers each year.

The rhizomes should be planted about 4 inches deep and 12 inches apart to allow for proper growth and flowering.

For best results, plant them in spring or fall so they establish themselves before cold winter temperatures arrive.

When mulching the garden, make sure the rhizomes are not covered by the mulch. If they are, they may not bloom.
