Fill your home with colorful African Violets without spending a fortune. Learn how to easily propagate new plants from leaf cuttings and expand your collection.
African violets offer various propagation methods:
Leaf CuttingsThe most common method. Take a healthy leaf, cut at an angle, and insert the stem into moist perlite or vermiculite. Keep the medium consistently moist and provide bright, indirect light. New plantlets will sprout from the base.
DivisionIdeal for mature plants with multiple crowns. Gently separate these crowns, ensuring each has roots, and pot them individually.
Suckers/Offsets Occasionally, small plantlets will emerge from the main plant’s base. Carefully separate and pot these to create new plants.
SeedsA less common but viable method. Be patient, as seed-grown plants take longer to mature and flower.
