How to Propagate Tradescantia In Water

Want more Tradescantia plants for free? Learn how to propagate them in water with this easy-to-follow guide. Expand your collection and enjoy their vibrant foliage.

Take stem cuttings about 4-6 inches long, cutting just below a node (the point where leaves grow from the stem).

Floral Frame

Remove the leaves from the bottom inch or two of the cutting.

Place the cuttings in a jar or glass of water, making sure the nodes are submerged.

Place the jar in a bright location, but out of direct sunlight.

Change the water every few days to prevent bacteria buildup.

Once roots have developed (usually within a week or two), you can plant the cuttings in soil.
