Stop peony flop! This guide provides easy tips and techniques to keep your beautiful peony flowers upright and off the ground.
My Preferred MethodFor consistent and reliable support, my absolute favorite method involves using grow-through hoops with a grid. These typically consist of sturdy wire hoops connected by a grid pattern. Here’s why I find them so effective.
The Grid Supports keep even large peony blooms upright in wind and rain with sturdy, easy-to-install support hoops that blend into foliage.
How I Install Them:Timing is KeyIdeally, I position the grow-through hoops as the peony shoots are just a few inches tall in the spring. Growth happens really quickly and you have a window of opportunity to get them in place. This allows the plant to grow naturally through the grid.
PlacementCenter the hoop over the emerging growth, ensuring the legs are firmly pushed into the soil around the plant.
Adjusting Height (If Possible)Some grow-through hoops have adjustable heights, which can be beneficial as the plants mature.
Enjoy the GrowthAs the season progresses, the peony stems and foliage will grow through the grid, providing natural and effective support for the developing blooms. I keep and eye on them and weave them into the hoop if they start to grow outside.
